Penang State Level Disaster Drill, SJAM Penang activated

Mangsa lebih 50 orang!... Buses crashed with cars...
A state level disaster drill was held at the premises of
Penang Medical College on Sunday, 2nd November 2008. This
disaster drill was organized by the
Emergency Department of Penang Hospital. It involved multiple
organizations and other
private hospitals as well.
Apart from Penang Hospital, Lam Wah Ee Hospital and Penang Adventist
Hospital, St. John Ambulance, Malaysian Red Crescent, Malaysian
Civil Defence Department also took part in the disaster drill. The
disaster drill showed a coordinated effort the various organizations
and hospitals in dealing in emergencies.
The Disaster Drill started at 7am in the morning. A total of 54
'casualties' were involved in a multiple vehicle crash (2 buses and
few cars) at the vicinity of Penang Medical College. Minutes later,
the various ambulances arrived at the scene well coordinated by the
Call Centre at Emergency Department. The 'casualties' were triage
based on their severity and managed accordingly. After given basic
medical management at the scene, they were then transferred to the 3
hospitals involved in the exercise, mainly Penang Hospital, Lam Wah
Ee Hospital and Penang Adventist Hospital.
The official stand down was given at 9.30am. All participants were
later debriefed at the seminar room. This is a 1st ever disaster
drill involving multiple hospitals and organizations. It is hoped
that in future, similar exercises will be held regularly to prepare
everyone for a disaster.
