Parent received warning letter from MCMC for kids making prank
calls to 999

Parent received a warning letter from Malaysia
Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) after the children made several
prank calls to 999 emergency call centre. Sin Chew Daily reported the incident
in today's newspaper.
It was recorded in the communication system of 999
call centre that the mobile phone number which made the several prank calls were
registered under father's name. The warning letter dated 16th of March 2009 was
issued to the father after an investigation done by MCMC on the several
disturbing and frank calls made by the children in January 2009. The personal
details of the father including the full name with identity card number (NRIC),
the said mobile phone number and the details of calls made were stated clearly
in the warning letter. MCMC will take further legal action on the parent shall
there any more disturbing or prank calls made, warned by MCMC in the letter too.
All public are urged to make use of the national
emergency number 999 wisely because it is concerning the life and death of
people. Please educate our child about the importance of 999 and train them to
use it wisely and only when real emergency.
Public are reminded that, making prank calls /
disturbing calls / miss use of 999, may get charge under Communication and
Multimedia Act 1998, Section 233. A person who commits an offence under this
section shall, on conviction, be liable to:
1. A fine not exceeding RM50,000 or
2. To imprisonment for a term not exceeding 1 year or to both and
3. Shall also be liable to a further fine of RM1000 for every day during which
the offence is continued after conviction.
